Nestled in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York is the Lake Placid Lodge. Recently constructed, the Lodge is perched just above beautiful Lake Placid, offering four seasons of luxury accommodation. Trowel Trades Supply is proud to have participated in the construction of such a remarkable structure.
The design architect, Dennis Wilmott of TruexCullins, described a specific aesthetic for the stone cladding on this project, namely a weathered field stone with a local, Adirondack feel, with the requirement that any stone selected for the project be available in thin stone adhered veneer. As most local stones are not available in thin veneer, and most thin veneer stones are not weathered field stones, our challenge was to find a stone blend to satisfy these requirements. Under the architect's guidance we built a few sample walls at Trowel Trades Supply for the owner and architect to review. After a few tries, it appeared the 50-50 blend of American Granite Ashlar and American Granite Mosaic offered the right combination of rounded, weathered stones and sharper split face stones to achieve a very natural looking stone veneer, all readily available in thin stone adhered veneer.
