ADVANCED CLAY PAVER PRESENTATION

This presentation is designed for professional hardscape installers, landscape architects, architects/specifiers and engineers. It will cover the benefits of clay pavers and what differentiates one clay paver from another. There will be a discussion of the manufacturing process and the ASTM C902 standard governing clay paving. It will also cover some design opportunities and common concerns such as joint sand retention and efflorescence. Throughout the presentation there will be a discussion of the misconceptions of clay pavers.

Green Works Announces the Winners
of the 2009 Industry Awards Program

Green Works/Vermont Nursery and Landscape Association is pleased to announce the winners of the 2009 Industry Award Program. A panel of 6 industry professionals and landscape architects met in December. Projects were judged according to difficulty, proper horticultural practices, craftsmanship, and contributions to the quality of sustainability to the environment. The awards are as follows:

The Grand Honor Award for Residential Landscape/Garden Design-Build
is awarded to Susan Els Garden & Landscape Design of S. Burlington, VT.


The Exceeds Excellence Award for Residential Landscape/Garden Design-Build
is awarded to Distinctive Landscaping, Charlotte, VT.


The Grand Honor Award for Commercial Landscape/Garden Design-Build
is awarded to Landshapes, Richmond, VT.


The Grand Honor Award for Commercial Landscape/Garden Maintenance
is awarded to Middlebury College Landscape Department, Middlebury, VT.


The Grand Honor Award for the Special Project category
is awarded to TreeWorks, Montpelier, VT.


The formal presentation of awards will be given at the Green Works February 10, 2010 Annual Winter Meeting and Trade Show at the Holiday Inn in Rutland, VT. Presentation of projects will be given by the award winners at the meeting and their winning projects will be on display.


Stone Wall Workshops

Our introductory workshops for homeowners and tradespeople promote the beauty and integrity of stone. The one-day workshops focus on the basic techniques for creating dry-laid walls with a special focus on stone native to Vermont. Hands-on workshops are held inside warm greenhouses in Hinesburg. The one-day workshops are $100. The next workshops are Saturday, December 12, and Saturday, January 9; workshops continue through March 2010. Space is limited. The first shipment of the season has come in and as anticipated this stone is as beautiful as we thought it would be. We look forward to our first few projects with this product, as well as projects in the future.




Silverlake Wallstone

This beautiful wall was built at the Stowe Mountain Resort. It is directly below the Spruce Peak Mountain Cabins. This stone is as buildable as it looks and has a natural face all contractors look for when building natural stone walls. A stone such as this Silverlake Stone make it easy for contractors to enhance any homeowners property quickly and efficiently. Along with Wallstone, Silverlake can come in flagging as well as bigger slabs. Trowel Trades will be stocking the wallstone and will make the other Silverlake products readily available when needed.

Big Slabs!

Trowel Trades has recently completed a couple of projects using very large slabs of natural stone. We now have a number of materials available including Pennsylvania Bluestone, Black Ledgestone and Panton Stone with which we can offer large slabs. We have supplied pieces of Black Ledgestone as large as 8' x 14'. We have supplied slabs of Pennsylvania Bluestone as large as 5' x 16'. Imagine laying a patio or walkway with just one stone! Fuel Surcharge Increase

Due to the extremely volatile nature of fuel costs that we are experiencing this season, we have been forced to raise our fuel surcharge to $50.00 per load. GPS Added to Our Fleet

Trowel Trades Supply, Inc., has added GPS technology to our delivery service. All of our delivery trucks have been fit with GPS receivers. This allows our dispatching personnel to locate our equipment and your materials at all stages of delivery.
